Our Story

Founded on a shared vision for craftsmanship and collaboration, Vested Building Company is the result of years of experience, mutual respect, and a passion for building things the right way.

Dickon and Nicole’s story began in 2019 at a remodeling company in Durham, where they worked side by side and quickly realized they shared the same passion for quality work, clear communication, and treating clients like partners—not just projects. At the time, Dickon was running field operations, and Nicole had stepped away briefly from her leadership role at Habitat for Humanity to dive deeper into residential remodeling.

Fast forward a few years—after plenty of sawdust, spreadsheets, and site walkthroughs—Dickon launched Reside Renovate in 2023, and Nicole joined soon after. It didn’t take long before they decided to make the partnership official, and in January 2024, Vested Building Company was born.

Today, we work on all types of residential remodeling projects—from kitchen and bathroom renovations to decks, porches, full gut remodels, and large-scale additions. Whether you’re reimagining a single room or transforming your entire home, our team is ready to bring your vision to life with craftsmanship you can trust.

The name says it all: We’re vested in your project, your experience, and your home—guided by vision and grounded in craft.

Meet The Team

Dickon Housman

Founder / Partner / GC

With over a decade of experience, Dickon’s foundation is in fine carpentry—he began his career as a joiner in England, mastering the details that set great craftsmanship apart. After moving to the U.S., he quickly transitioned into construction management and leadership roles, where his ability to coordinate teams and run efficient job sites set him apart. In 2018, he was recognized nationally as a member of Pro Remodeler's 'Fourty Under 40' class for his leadership and impact in the remodeling industry. He brings a rare combination of hands-on skill and big-picture thinking to every project. Dickon lives in Oxford with his wife, Anna, their two kids, and two energetic dogs. If there’s a spreadsheet for it, he’s got it. If there’s a plan to be made, it’s already in motion.

Nicole Tyra

Founder / Partner / GC / AB / AR

Equal parts big-picture thinker and detail chaser, Nicole brings deep expertise in project and construction management—leading everything from single-room remodels to full-scale home builds. She’s an Accredited Remodeler (AR) and Accredited Builder (AB) with the North Carolina Home Builders Association (NCHBA), and has spent her career blending thoughtful design with efficient, well-run job sites. With a background in nonprofit housing and residential remodeling, she’s known for her sharp eye for design, rock-solid communication, and ability to keep projects on track and teams aligned.

Nicole has previously served on the NC State Arts Board and the HBADOC Board, and currently serves as Chair of the Professional Women in Building of the Triangle, an HBA council. She lives in Raleigh with her husband, Kristopher, their daughter Kamren, and their own pair of dogs (clearly, it’s a theme). She’s happiest with a project schedule in hand and a team moving in sync.

Travis Spencer

Project Manager / Site Lead / Carpenter Extraordinaire

Travis brings over a decade of hands-on and management experience in high-end residential remodeling and historic restoration. He has led multimillion-dollar renovation projects as a project manager, with a specialty in preserving historic craftsmanship while meeting modern codes—including work under the Federal Historic Tax Credit program. His background also includes furniture design, finish carpentry, and custom fabrication using reclaimed materials.

Travis lives in Chapel Hill with his wife, Sarah, and their daughter, Ruby. He’s passionate about thoughtful, detail-driven remodeling that improves homes—and improves lives. His commitment to service extends beyond the jobsite through his longtime involvement with Habitat for Humanity and leadership in regional rugby communities. With an eye for design and a heart for neighborhoods, Travis adds both grit and craftsmanship to the Vested team.
